Hi folks, my shower has sprung a leak and I think it’s coming from the shower tray waste. I removed the flange and found a pretty knackered looking seal, was just wondering if good old sanitary silicone would do a better job if I ripped this seal off, or should I try and find a replacement seal?

Cheers

The seal is on the underside of the tray ,the silicone on the top surface is largely superficial, but doesn't do any harm to apply a bead of it.

Ah ok, so I should replace this seal and apply a bead of silicone on the top? I don’t suppose you know what kind of seal this is, I can’t seem to find anything that looks like it. It’s really soft to the touch. Excuse my ignorance, never really dealt with showers before

It's usually black rubber. Clean off all the silicone and gunge, and retrieve the seal. They do vary in diameter from one manufacturers trap design to anothers ,so take it to a plumbers merchant to match. You may need to buy a trap to get the seal ,if they don't have any singularly available.
