Hi all,

Really need some help here..attached is an image of the waste pipe in our house. It leaked last year causing a smell in the utility room. I cleaned it off and sealed with silicon. All was well for about 6 months and the seals seemed to leak.

What seems strange to me is the connections. The collar seems to come from the pipe above is this correct ? (Sorry not a great plumber)

Thanks for any help,

Peter

what one's leaking ?
the collar is part of the lower section then the next section slides into that.

you appear to have sealed the upward-facing joint. If anything leaks out here, you must have a blockage. But look round the back of the pipe in case anything is running down from above. Are you sure it is not condensation?

The "rubber" seal ring is in the socket part, if it has been damaged you had better take it off and replace it. Use silicone grease as a lubricant to slide the pipe in. The pipe should slide right in untiul it hits the stop-ring inside the socket. I suppose if the pipe was too short that would also contribute to the leak.

These stacks are usually build starting at the bottom and sliding more bits on from above. It is difficult to re-make without dismantling from the top but you can get a sliding coupler. You need to mark the pipes with felt-tip so you know when they are in the coupling to the correct depth.
