Hi

I've got an a big metal soil vent up the outside of my old house, and a newer plastic pipe joining into the side. The vent has rusted away at the base so that when water drains from the plastic pipe it starts leaking out of the vent. Only washing machine drainoff, no sewage, but it's not great for the wall.

Can I just clean up and bung a load of sealant around the leaky edge, or are there better materials I should use?

Something a bit odd there Nick???!!! It looks like the plastic pipe just sits on top of a fire lay drain & there's no connection?

I know, the junction with the vent doesn't look like it's properly sealed but it's definitely not leaking from there (stood and watched it) - it's definitely seeping out from rusted-out holes at the base of the vent. Don't know if there's a blockage in the drain as well that's making the water reach that level.

There's what looks like an access at the base of the SVP, at finished ground level. Open that up & have a butchers.
