Please can you help me I have a small hand basin and have attempted to fit a push trap for easy drainage the trouble is however tight I fit it using PTF tape the trap leaks particularly when the water goes through the overflow. I have thought of silicon but would you remove the washer in the basin under the trap lip or not before bedding in silicon or have you any other ideas please ?

yes use silicone or buy a basin mate.
