I wish I knew how to load a photo of what I shall now try to explain. Just returned from holiday (water turned off for the 4 weeks - so no leaks via that route) but have signs of a leak down the INSIDE of the kitchen wall next to the window frame. The house was built in 1884 so I need to know if I my walls were built single or double lined. I am hazarding a guess that water is leaking in from a point OVER the window frame on the outside (where there is a horizontal wooden lip positioned over the window - as opposed to an angled lip, which would have ensure that rainwater falls away from the building line) and then follows a route to the inside - is this possible?
There does not appear to be any holes on the oputside brickwork![/img]

Its either a mortat joint, timber joint, a crack or the junction of the frame to the wall.

The only way to to look at it and see if there are any obvious places which could allow water in, and repair as appropriate

The walls are likely to be either half (110mm) or one brick thick (230mm)

A large, wide sodden area is likely to be absorbtion from the exterior, a thin narrow stain is a leak from a single point.
