I have a Royal Cozyfires gas fire (the one with the pretend coals). It has a pilot light that you have to light each time you want the fire on. I want to leave the pilot alight permanently for the cold weather (the book of instructions says this is OK) but I'm interested to know if this is expensive. Does anyone out there know roughly how much this would cost over a typical 3 monthly billing cycle? The reason I want to leave it lit (someone is bound to ask!) is that it is quite hard on my arthritic fingers (and back) to light the pilot light twice a day. The house is unoccupied for about half the time.

They used to say £5 a year for a pilot - which must be £10 or £15 now.

You could see how much the meter moves, overnight, then do battle withthe numbers on the bill...
