just had an electric shower wired in sparks has put it on an MCB in cu, shouldn't it have an RCD aswell?

Not necessarily to both of the showers that you have had fitted

Have you got an RCD at all in the house, i.e. split load or is there a seperate RCD outside of the consumer unit?

NO 2 both questions, of course there is an isolating pull cord in b/room
