The plumber left a tap on our water supply in the cupboard under the stairs, he was meant to tidy it up but never did. I keep meaning to cap it off, but was thinking I could push it through the wall and and have a water tap in my garage. Is there any reason not to do this, the tap wont have a drain under it.

Fek me! Was it a 'Push fit Plumber by any chance'?

Like to see the rest of the plumbing work........shock horror!

This was the same plumber who:
- caused me to need to repair my ceiling twice, because he couldn't solder pipes

- mounted 30kg radiators to plasterboard without noggins using self driving plaster board plugs (I had to open the walls up and add additional support)
- didn't measure the soil pipe properly so created spacers out of copper pipe for my back to wall loo:

- installed about 30m of plastic pipe in my uninsulated floor void without insulating it, neatly removing my fully insulated copper pipe at the same time (I had to raise the floor and redo it)

- installed pipework in the door way without thinking that it might be vulnerable to traffic
- kinked all the hoses fitting a pump where it shouldn't have been fitted:

- wanted to run my radiator pipes through my garage (uninsulated).

yes - he's a professional plumber, subcontracted by the builder.

Anyway - is there anything wrong with having a tap in a garage without a drain under it?

Not really no. You might want to have an internal ISO & check valve though if a hose may be used and to isolate tap in freezing weather if needed.

Or you could cut the pipe near the Tee fit an elbow pointing down, fit a stoptap and tee with a DOC and do the job properly !!

The other tap is the main stoptap, so not sure why I'd want another just on the branch to the garage?
Looking at it again - should I be thinking of a few pipe clips as strain relief on the uprights?

The additional stoptap allows you to turn water off and drain the pipe into an unheated space to prevent freezing in harsh weather.

..And it would allow me to switch back to copper, which I'm happy working with.
