Les Paul died

No I didn't know that. BTW he had little to do with the model that bears his name, but he was an influential player. Not my cup of tea but he played live well into his 90s.

It was only the style and the look of the new SG that he didnt have much to do with. He actually asked Gibson to have his name removed from it because they re-designed it behind his back and he hated the look of it ( it was nicer though)

The original gold top and the SG are in my opinon are the best looking and sounding guitars you can buy

The guitar was designed by Ted McCarty of Gibson. Les Paul was only involved in tiny details like colour and gold hardware. It was an early endorsement deal. He didn't design any of it.

Thats what i'm trying to say, the style etc was down to Ted McCarty, but the concept of the solid body guitar was down to Les Paul, SG ( Solid Guitar)

Gibson initially rejected his idea for the solid body, Les Paul disagreed with Gibson about it being an endorsement deal, and I dont think people will know the full story.

The design of the guiter will always be controversial
