Hi. I am wanting to level the floor where I will be installing a multi-fuel stove on a hearth. The depth in the opening is approx 2-3cm and then surrounding area is the depth of parquet flooring approx 1cm. Was thinking of a mix of sharp sand and cement for the deeper bit (that maybe exposed to more heat - albeit protected by hearth on top) and then latex levelling screen around the outer area to bring up to level of the parquet? We are going to get a smaller new hearth (slate) to put on top raised then carpet up to the edge. Does this sound ok? Also any ideas on the best material to render the inside of the chimney breast area are welcome too. Thanks in advance!

Is your stove certified not to raise the hearth above 100 degrees C? If so your hearth only needs to be 12mm thick

Yes it’s heat is below 100 degrees so 12mm min hearth can be used.

Might be best to acquire your slate, chuck your screed in and lay it wet (like you'd do a shower tray) to guarantee the slate is properly supported (check with the hearth suppliers to see what they advise).
