not sure if this goes under plastering or building...

Have removed rotten ancient plasterboard from stud wall posts/battens that used to surround bath. Have moisture resistant gyproc plasterboard to replace it. All the replaced area will be tiled so want to avoid skimming the board. However need to level the boards slightly so that new bath has more snug fit to the wall.

wondering whats best and least painful and least expensive method

1) can I use drywall adhesive between battens and plasterboard to level then screw in place through to the battens

2) use wood shims (a long process)

3) or does it need to be skimmed over after all??

any other ideas/experience welcome

thanks

Hi, Sorry to say this but the best way would be to screw new lengths of timber packers to the existing stub vertical sections to the required distance and then screw or nail the plaster board to the newly installed timbers. Or you could run the timber packers across the existing studs. You do not need to skim the plaster board, but make sure that any joints between the paster boards are fixed back to the timber.

not sure what size of tile you are using, but if they are small, you may wish to use a plaster board jointing tape to make sure that the tiles stick better over the plaster board joints
