Following my initial posting and replies regarding my sloping kitchen floor, I have found out from another source that the 4x2 joists need packed up with pieces of slate placed underneath in their pockets of the brickwork. So this information being correct, this is what I am going to do.
One other question I have is that considering the lack of any noggins or struts between the joists, should I put in either noggins or struts?

The lenght of the joists are approximately 2.3 meters from end to end and there are 12 joists at about 14 inch centres. The house is a 1920's build.

Thanks

Will need a solid noggins to stop the joists twisting, very rarely noggins is needed in ground floor joists. Is this the ground floor as you've mentioned 4"x2". There's no harm putting extra noggins in though. How many sleeper wallplate is there? Sleeper wallplate is where the floor joists rest on.

This floor is a ground floor and yes the joists are 4x2 ones, which each end of each joist sits in a pocket of the brickwork.

Are the joists in good condition and not rotted in the brickwork or is it just loose?

The joists just sit in the brickwork pockets AFAIK, and there is a gap of upto about 15mm above some of the joists top the bottom of the brick. They all look in sound condition
