I want lay self adhesive vinyl planks in a small bathroom which has a concrete floor covered in 9 inch thermoplastic tiles.
The thermoplastic tiles are slightly broken around the edges due to carpet grippers having been nailed in. I know that the thermoplastic tiles are likely to contain asbestos, as well as possibly the bitumen with which they are glued down, so would prefer not to remove the thermoplastic tiles as some posts suggest. (I hear the bitumen is a utter pain to remove anyway).
So, how can I make the tiles smooth round the edges before laying my self adhesive vinyl planks? An added complication is that the planks I was aiming for from B&Q say for some reason that they shouldn't be laid onto thermoplastic tiles! However planks from other stores do not mention this.
I know nothing about floor levelling compounds, and would prefer something which doesn't take too long to install. When I've used these planks previously I've had floorboards so simply screwed sheets of plywood down first to make it smooth.
Some posts mention DPM, but I don't know if this is an issue or how to find out if there is one. It's a ground floor bathroom.
Thanks very much for your advice!
