Calling all experts , is there any one who can help me with a little trouble im having trying to set up my system. Basicly, dont know how to set it up so that the surround sound works when i'm watching tv via my virgin box other than just the dvd player that came with it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Does the V box have an SPDIF audio output or analogue left & right?

What inputs does the LG system have?

Do you mean you have it connected but get 2 channel only from tv box?

the lg model number is HT503PH , there is nothing like that on the back of the v box just scart connections, the system is not set up yet this is all new to me!!!!!!

Ok, I've had a look at the (rather poor) manual for the DVD player. It has one set of analogue audio inputs (marked L - AUX - R Input) & one optical audio input (marked optical in).

As you have no connections other than scart, you will need to buy a scart lead with "audio breakouts" & plug these into the L & R inputs.

Alternatively, if you have phono audio outputs on your tv, just link these up to the player in the same sockets.

Some flat screens have an optical audio output which you could connect to the players optical in socket.

You then select the input you are using by scrolling through using the input button on the DVD remote.

Then, I would imagine you should be able to select the processing mode you wish to use i.e. 2 channel, Pro Logic II & whatever else is available to you.

You'll need to read the manual or have a play around with that!

Hope that makes some sort of sense!

Update! I've just re-read your post - you use scart connections in plural, if there are two you could just buy a scart to L & R audio phono plugs and bung them in the L & R input skts on DVD.

Hi again. Thanks for all your help. In the end we kinda done a trial and error thing. We had to buy HDMI lead and Optical lead, wired HDMI from TV to Cinema system, same with the optical, plugged tv into V box via scart, then scat from v box to entertaiment system.. fiddled around with the menu on the cinema box and Huzzah!!... there we have it!! Again... thanks for all you guys help. Much appreciated.

You should consider if possible using the optical cable from your v box to your entertainment system. it will allow you to receive sound in dolby 5.1 if it available on broadcasted programmes....better surround sound.

From what ive been told, scart doesnt carry 5.1 sound....only optical or hdmi. if you wanna hear dolby 5.1 via your v box, it needs to be hdmi or optical.
