Hi guys, new forum member here.

I currently have a Nest 2nd Gen wired to a combi boiler and moving house to a property that has a conventional boiler (hot water tank)

I understand the 2nd Gen does not support hot water control however can it be wired to control just the heating?

The boiler is an Ideal Logic Max Heat H24 with a Drayon LP522 control panel and thermostat in the downstairs halway.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The second gen Nest could be connected up, purely as a thermostat.
However, the second gen is getting on a bit, and it seems the new boiler may be OpenTherm compatible.
Why not upgrade to a 3rd gen Nest, that can control hot water (and possibly with modification use OpenTherm), and keep the 2nd gen Nest installed for the next occupants?

A 3rd gen would be great but with the cost of moving house it’s an extra £200 I potentially may not necessarily need to spend.

Good to know the 2nd gen can be used for just heating - I will research the forum to find LP522 wiring diagrams.

I know it's another unwanted expense, although £160 from Amazon.
And I know I would want to provide some kind of cheap thermostat in place for the new occupants, so £140 in real terms?

The LP522 would have to stay in place to control the Hot Water, and the 2nd Gen Nest Heatlink would connect to, and take over the function of the Hallway thermostat.

Then the LP522 Central heating channel would need to be set to be permanently 'on' 24/7 otherwise it would interfere with the operation of the Nest.

This assumes that the existing heating system is fairly modern and not an old system with pumped central heating and gravity circulation of hot water. If it is, the restrictions of the plumbing would prevent you using the 2nd Gen Nest in this way.

Thanks for all the advice! - I’m happy to close this thread as resolved.
