Hi all

I am in the process of replacing a light fitting in our hallway.

I have carefully loosened the current fitting and can see three wires coming out of the ceiling - Brown (L), Blue (N) and Yellow (E).

My new light fitting though only has connections for Live and Neutral.

My questions is, presuming I simple connect the Live to Live and Neutral to Neutral, what do I do with the Earth wire? There seems to be nowhere obvious to connect it to.

I have attached pics which will hopefully help - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Just fold over the earth wire so strands are not sticking out of end and tape over the wire and leave for future use.

The light fitting you have is very likely not to require an earth, these fitting are usually classed as double insulated/class II.
There should be a symbol that looks like a square inside a square on the fitting.
What you must not do is cut or snip the earth back as may be required at sometime in the future or leave hanging, as it can possible come in accidental contact with live conductors.
So the best course of action is to terminate in an insulated connector, a normally 5amp connector block will do.
