Bit of a strange one...

I have an outdoor light, that's on controlled by a light switch inside, never used it but looks to be just a straight on and off rather than radar controlled.

Question is, I'd like to fit a security camera in the position of the lamp, which requires a 3 pin plug which then connects to the camera via USB circa 5V/1A.

Could I convert that outdoor wiring for the lamp to an outdoor socket, controlled by the switch inside obviously (should this be a fused switch if so) and then have the security camera connecting to this socket?

Unfortunately there is no 3 pin socket nearby nor can the camera be hard wired...

Thanks in advance

Andy

Not a major problem.

Is it a standard 13amp plug - or one of those big chunky things with the transformer built into it?

They do make outside sockets with a raised lid which allows for the chunky transformer plugs.

Small ish plug see pics

So in theory I can just wire the terminals straight into the outdoor socket?

That's a PSU, not a plug.

Ìt would be very preferable to have it inside the house, and run the 5 Volt cable though the wall and to the lamp.

If you intend to have a mains voltage lamp as well as the 5v camera I suppose you will need a weathertight box outside.

Replace with usb socket in waterproof case then just plug in camera ( does not have to use supplied power supply).

Good shout that, save the faff of using a socket and then 3 pin plug
