lighting circuit for outdoor building

hello all

I want to add a lighting circuit to my garage but I am confused as to what to use in replace of a junction box as used in a conventional indoor lighting circuit. Most of the examples I have seen don't use a junction box.

Do I just run the power cable to the swith and then back to the light fixture?

You haven't said if you have power to your garage, if the garage is in the same town.
Do you just want to add to the power circuits in the garage?
