Hi, hope someone can help. I am fitting two ceiling lights in the living rooms running off what was the one centre ceiling light. The problem is that when I wire up the new lights they stay on, I've checked the feeds in the loop (as there are two switches) and they are fine. I have three Lives, three Neutral, one separate neutral on its own and the Earths. This is an old house and has had a lot of DIY done to it by previous owners. Any assistance would be grateful, thanks. :)

Presumably the original light did not stay on all the time?

If you had maintained the connections as they were, and simply connected the new lights to the same switched live and neutral of the old one, you wouldn't be having this problem. Ergo, you muddled them up somehow, and you've connected to a permanent live instead of the switched one.

Have you looked at the diagrams of lighting circuits in the For Reference topic?

Have you kept the same connections as before ie were all the reds together and the same 3 neutrals. If so the one remaining black wire is the switch wire from the switch. Should have red sleeving on but often neglected. Connect the light live to this switch wire and neutral to the three blacks. The three reds are the loop on to the next light.
If you have just jumbled up the wires then best call a sparky who can sort it out quickly for you.
