Is this cable suitable for extending a light switch cable, also running for a new ceiling rose?

Yes, 1.0mm² will be more than adequate.

When you say 'extending' a cable, how will you join it and where?

Not sure of best way to join it. It only needs extending 1M. Im currently replacing the wall the switch will be on, so routing cables isn't a problem. Would it be best to pull cables up through loft & drop back down, if they reach?

Yes, or replace if they wont reach.

Managed to locate wires in loft, looks like they will reach if I pull them up. Do they have to be in a conduit when I run them back down?
