I'm patching some outside rendering at a high level while the scaffolding's up.

The house is about 200 years old and the original ashlar render is still in quite good condition. I've burned the paint off ready to repaint, but a few arrears are in a bad way due to damp etc.

Has anyone got any advice on the mix I should use (I'm actually quite competent at plastering, having patched up around electrics for many a year.)

And in particular, how do I get that immaculate square 'ashlar' effect (imitation block) that the original has.

grateful for any advise - thanks
