I bought these:

Toying with the idea of a contrasting grout (nothing extreme, maybe light grey) however on the box it states for their matt/satin tiles, recommended white grout only. For their gloss effect tiles, any grout colour can be used.

Why is this? Due to the matt/satin finish and risk of colour bleeding through the tile?

I set green tiles around a door a few years ago and wanted green grout to go in the gaps but couldn't find a close enough match. Most recommendations are for a powder that adds to regular grout but it comes in 1kg bags and was far too much for what i needed. Smaller pigments are available but expensive, so it comes down to how large an area you want to cover.

I like the example in the link: the green edge looks great around the white tiles.

I think I'll need to email them. I read it more (the guidance on the box I mean) that they are recommending white grout only for their matt/satin tiles due to the way they're made i.e. the finish on the surface. Almost like a warning.

It's likely they advise that because the colours will stand out too much beside the matt finish and render the tile a white space between thin coloured lines, like a large crossword puzzle. If you were to opt for a near-white grout it could work, but a test piece would be best before you sally forth into a world of woe and regret.

Don't forget to find a silicone the same colour. Mapei have a wide range of silicones that match their coloured grout.
