Hi have a vokera linea 28 ch system and just recently seem to have just about lost all hot water if you turn a tap on the boiler kicks in for about 5 seconds then shuts off again so only ever get bursts of lukewarm water. I do live in a hard water area and after trawling the net I believe the DHW exchanger is almost certainly scaled up I have the complete manual and after looking at the boiler I seem to have a problem the manual tells me to close the heating flow and return valves by turnning them 1/4 turn till the lines line up this is fine on one of the valves but the other one has no valve on just a square drive , which to me says not a valve but a drain cap am I wrong ?? and if it is just a drain how can i turn this valve off???? plz help!!!!!would like some hot water can`t keep my distance from everybody lol

Square drive (external) should still close the valve with a 90D turn. Could be that the end has broken off previously.

Notorious problem with these valve are that they will leak after using and need replacing. Is there any way you can leave these open and drain just the boiler down?

boiler has been in about 4 years and was fitted with this valve ? (external square) to remove heat secondary exchanger manual says shut offf water and both valves release pressure on safety valve and run lower tap to drain do i need to do all this or could i get away with not shutting this suspect valve in case it is a drain plug and not a valve?

What rubbish!!! Vokera remain about the only manufactuer to use quality valves that dont leak. Certainly not on a 4 year old model. The vokera valves remain the same as the ones used for the last 15 years.............I had a spell working for vokera and never had a set of the valves used on the linea range leak. Nor the Excell for that matter.

Harrowgategas, do agree with you regards quality of fitting on Vokera, but have to conceed quality on current appliances is not the same as on a Flowmatic. Excel has a design problem (domestic manifold) but otherwise is a very good boiler. WRT to iso valves, they are good but do now and again have to replace as the spindles start weeping especially if the valve has not been isolated for a long time.

Poster may want to look at the metering washer (I think fitted above the HW flow switch). This can cause similar problems.

just to clarify matters one of the so called valves has a nut and internal screw (a la radiator bleed screw) which i am fine with as this looks like a valve it is the other i am having a problem as it looks just like a drain plug with an external square drive and not a valve it is the valve?? on the left hand side looking at the boiler from the front if for some reason it is not a valve will it matter if i turn off water then drain some hot water off my so called 5 minute job (to release DHW exchanger ) is turning into a bit of a marathon lol thx in advance for any advice/help offered

perhaps I dreamt it! But then no, the water coming out of each valve dripping on me had woke me up! But then all Lineas I have been to are about 5-6 years old, so op might have another year left in which to shut them. I've had nothing but poor quality on the ones I've been called to. Even had one where some jerk had tried to braize a metal cap over the valve to stop it leaking instead of replacing.
