Lintel sizing

Can anyone give me a rough size for a lintel.

Span 2.5m, brick supports, holding up jointed area of downstairs ceiling joists. Thanks

Hi shufti, I would suggest a pre-stressed quality re-inforced concrete lintol of 6" high by 4" wide -as 8 foot is not a big span. Make sure you have a good 6" purchase each side of the room .

A few questions you need to consider are

whats the span of the ceiling joists? (or are these floor joists if you have an upstairs - floors are in the region of 4 times heavier)

are there any walls supported by the ceiling/floor joists?

if so are they supporting anything?

whats the thickness of the wall your removing?
