Hi everyone this is my 1st post on here so if this question had been asked 100s of times already them im sorry.

I have 2 ceiling rose's in my front room which i want to replace with 2 new lights. There are 2 light switches that operate the lights. After unscrewing the plastic to get to the wiring there are 3 black, 4 red and a black with red tape and 2 earth in one rose and the other has 4 red and 4 black and 2 earth cables. The new connections have 4 blocks.

I have supplied images as i dont have a clue about electrics.

If anyone can help that would be great

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I followed the diagram, but when turning the power back on the other light stayed on constantly while the one i was working on didnt come on at all.
I tried putting the switch wire (black with red tape) into the live which made it work, but the other rose still wouldnt turn off.

Hmmm might have to phone an electrician.

If the lights worked properly before then it should be straightforward.
On each lightfitting you are only replacing the brown and blue wire, like-for-like plus of course the earth for each light.

In the left hand rose , there was one with tape on and also a RED both together , that RED one is going across to light up the right rose , you need to put them Two in with your new brown live on there own, that will leave you with three reds together on there own which are permenently LIVE

The confusion is, you have in the left rose an extra wire in with the switched live to a second light which most people dont have, you have simply put that,in the permanent live causing it to be on

In the second rose , one red is that same looped switch live , which you should have marked, and joined to the new brown, seperate from the other three permenent LIVE reds

Thanks for all your replies and i can now see where i have gone wrong. It's getting dark so im going to tackle it tomorrow (dont fancy holding a torch in my mouth)

I'll let you know how i get on.
