Looking to raise height of garage built on side of house as part of conversion to office.
Been given various options but my builder has suggested building an insulated stud wall adjacent to the single outer skin wall and putting new joists on this to hold weight of new roof. There will no weight on it other than the new roof and whatever the weather brings.
My question is how wide are foundations usually for a single skin garage wall with a pier and would this at 50mm from the other wall sit on them. If not would the concrete garage slab take the weight?
At the moment the joists just sit on top of the existing brickwork.
Thanks for any help.
