Right, first off I have a boiler in my kitchen which usually fires up when i run thej hot tap and a cylinder boiler upstairs in the "airing cupboard" that has all the time switches on.

My problem is with the one in the kitchen. When it starts up it runs for 5 secs but as it really kicks in as it used to it makes a high mechanical engine type noise, like gears grating or something. Its a rapid noise that lasts for about 3 seconds and then the boiler cuts out. I thought it may be trapped air in the pipes or something but due to my total lack of knowledge in this area I am buggered.

Does anyone know of any things I could try before ringing someone who will charge me loads and it may be something simple

thanks in advance

fan at a guess but then I don't even have a clue what boiler it is.

Derek Acorah.........he`s a Psychic Scouser. ;) .......or mechanical screeching could be the pump trying to run ....siezing and the boiler then going off due to overheating
