How do I determine how much to open or close the lockshield valves on my central heating system? Someone suggested that this may solve my pipe banging problem. What is the rule of thumb as they say is it a certain amount of turns. New to this business!!
Your banging problem is probably due to your pipes moving about and hitting floor boards joists etc best bet is to secure your pipework so it doesn't move about. Or at least cover the pipes with insulation material so they don't make a noise.
The valves are adjusted when the system is commisioned, it's called balancing the system, a rad near the boiler only needs the valve to be open a little for the rad to heat up, whereas a rad at the end of the circuit may have the valve fully open to achieve the same temperature!
Thanks for the link on balancing was just what I was looking for as I have a dodgy rad upstairs, but this took care of it and now it's heating up nice.
