Hello all, absolute newbie here so please have patience with my lack of knowledge.

Looking to board my new build attic. I have researched and was going to use Loft Legs as they connect straight to the joists however there timber beams throughout the loft which are above joists (not connected) which are throwing me off. I cannot attach loft legs with those beams in the way? The beams also do no feel too sturdy when standing on them… would I be okay to install the boards directly on those beams? Weight would be evenly spread once installed?

Insulation is already 270mm.

Added pictures of the loft and circled the odd beams (in red) and added green lines to show where the joists are (directly under the beams).

Any assistance would be great. Cheers

Personally I would board directly onto the joists down the centre of the loft and top up towards the eaves. Remember to ensure you maintain the air flow into the loft from the eaves

loft legs are used so you can pack more insulation under them, just board it out if you are happy with the insulation you have. Boards will add some rigidy but anything you store up there will need to be evenly distributed and not heavy ie a set of gym weights.

Thanks for the swift responses! So attach boards to the joists circled in red?

Also, does my attic have double joists? Joists below the insulation and the ones highlighted in red? Like I said, absolute newbie here!

Cheers

those are there to hold the plasterboard up in the ceiling of the room below most likely at the edge of a room.
