Advice needed!

We recently moved house, in our previous house my husband had a workbench in the loft set up for miniature painting.

Now that we've moved, he's lost that space and his much loved miniatures are in storage unloved for the past 18 months. I'd like to surprise him by setting something up in the loft again.

Currently, the loft floor is fully boarded and insulated on loft legs. I'd like to board out some very small sections of rafters to make it a more plesant space, it will still very much be a storage loft.

I have a desk, underlay and carpet for the space. I was intending on just boarding the top part (with no insulation behind for airflow) down to where the shelf boarding would be.

Suggested materials? Am I safe to do this?

You know you should wear a mask up in loft with all that glass fibre floating about.
It's sort of ok to hop up and grab something but spending time in loft without a mask is not a good idea.

No garden for a heated workshop?

Are you talking about diy or getting someone in. Can't you do it the same as the rest has been done Not really sure from your descrition and pic what exactly it is you want to do.

Not a good idea. In winter, it will be freezing cold, and you don't want the loft hatch open, and someone breathing out moisture, adding to the moisture levels. Come summer, that space will be horrendously hot.

Thanks for the input, as mentioned. We had the same set up in our previous house. Didn't tend to get used on the hottest or coldest days but plenty in between

DIY, my husband and I did the rest of it together so I had been hoping to finish it off as a surprise for him.

Thanks for that, he uses the loft a lot already and hadnt cited any health concerns so I'm certainly having a rethink or thinking how i can make it safer. Not a huge garden, 3 kids who need the space to play.

Some board an area and drop in a velux window.
Better if you can make a floating floor off internal walls Vs off the ceiling joist

3mm white faced hardboard from Wickes/B&Q. Fix with small screws and cup washers or felt nails. As said, the insulation fibres are an irritant and should be kept separate - even some old bed sheets laid over the non boarded areas will do.

Presumably the boarding will be finished a bit more as part of your project.
