Hi all , i am know looking to board out my loft and at the moment i have vermiculite between the joists , my question is does the boarding which is approx 18mm thick have any insulation value in any way shape or form, because my thoughts are that if you board over approx 3 " of vamiculite you must be trapping in the heat loss ? . I have also toyed with that knauff board that is already insulated although its expensive , has anybody had any dealings with this , any help much apprieciated .

A very small amount, its not going to make a lot if any difference adding it above your existing insulation and you certainly won't notice it one way or another.

The popular and often recommended solution on the forums is to install some mineral wool insulation between the existing joists, then instal cross battens and an addition layer of mineral wool perpendicular to the existing joists, then board over that. Have a look down the Floors, Stairs and Lofts section, there are many threads on here regarding this.
