We are in the process of converting our loft in a 1930s 3 bed terraced house. We have been told that we need to replace our beautiful solid wood panelled doors with firedoors. Or we can have them fireproofed??
Replacement ( similar) doors will cost around £1000 plus. One loft company said treated doors may not pass.
Any advice gratefully received.

What some people do , and I in no way condone this, is to fit normal fire doors and get the Completion Certificate to prove it and then change them back afterwards. It is you who has to live with them and the risk but some people do it.

Have you checked that similar doors don't have a suitable fire rating (FD 20)?

Or consider something like an intumescent paper/membrane kit - purpose made for panelled doors. One such supplier is www.envirograf.com

check with building control. Here in Oxford an interlinked mains smoke alarm with sensors in every habitable room, hallway and landing is just being approved as an alternative to fire doors
