Hello everybody,
We're doing loft conversion in a bungalow and the bearing walls configuration we have is shown in the drawing. At couple of places we need to cross beams. Ideally you'd want to cross half them but I was told this is not allowed.
According to this Notching and Boring guide the rules are quite tough:
So how do you deal with beam crossings? Any ideas on alternative ways to run the beams on our loft layout?
Thanks a lot

According to this Notching and Boring guide the rules are quite tough:
Notches in solid lumber joists, rafters and beams shall not exceed one-sixth of the depth of the member, shall not be longer than one-third of the depth of the member and shall not be located in the middle one-third of the span. Notches at the ends of the member shall not exceed one-fourth the depth of the member.
So how do you deal with beam crossings? Any ideas on alternative ways to run the beams on our loft layout?
Thanks a lot
