Hi there,

Looking for some advice before I considering moving forward.

We had a loft conversion done back in 2009 - full council sign off once completed.
We were one of the first around our area to have one, and at the time council stated we wouldn't be allowed to have the rear dormer all the way to the end of the gable.

This picture might help more to understand what I mean.

I have noticed in the past few years more loft conversions going up - & the rear of these are totally built to the gable end.

Now I am considering extending ours to the gable end.
Question is though would I ned to re-submit anything to the council.

Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks

Jass

Didn't help me, tbh

To gain how much space?

You should be able to find planning applications on your local council website; did all your neighbours submit anything? Is your house subject to an Article 4 direction, or similar, revoking your PD rights?
Would the total enlargement, over what was originally built before you converted your loft, exceed the volume permitted by PD?
To what use do you plan to put the new space?

Looking at the picture, you would only gain room behind the bathroom, so you would get an extra cupboard. Is it worth the cost?

Thanks for the feedback.

To answer your questions.

Space wise I would be looking at an extra 600mm roughly.
This extra space would be used purely to extent the bathroom.

I will look at recent conversions & the council planning submissions.

Good point on the volume, will check that.
No issues with PD on the house.

All the work would be done by me - as structurally all the steel was in place for the initial build.
Cost is all relative to value of the house, in this case not an issue

Thanks again for your thoughts

In that case, it is only worth doing if you plan to remove and fit a new bigger bathroom.

If you want a 600mm wider shower tray, maybe fitting a toilet with a sink in the cistern lid would be quicker and easier!
