Hi
I am planning a loft conversion and am a little confused regarding the reg on dropped landings and steps off them in to rooms are they allowed or will i have to move the doors back.
Many thanks

You would not normally be allowed to do that, the landing at the top of each step must be clear of door swings so to keep that stair layout you would have to move the doors back by the width of the stair to create a landing. Have you looked at some of the online stair builder websites, they have easy to use no sign up design software where you can configure different layouts/rises etc and you end up with an actual stair footprint rather than theoretical footprints.

You could ask your friendly Building inspector if they'll allow it on the basis that only people using the doors/stairs will be familiar with the layout or that moving the doors back would make the rooms unusable perhaps but they'd not be obliged to accept it.

No, if you kept your stair configuration as it is, then you would need two landings each off the top of each stair, each as long as the width, which should be clear of doors or door swings., assuming the doors are into bedrooms.

Hi
Just found this by tony1851.so look like i may well be ok if reg have not changed since then, just one more question can the roof slope reduced hight be in front of you as you stand at the top of the stairs or can it only be to the side.
Many thanks
