loft conversion

hi all. A friend of mine was asking me about doing a loft conversion on his house, trouble is at the minute there is only about 5 feet of head room in the loft.can anything be done to increase the height other than a complete new roof structure? it is linked house, one neighbour is direct in line and the other is forward of his house. Think this could be £££££££. maybe one to miss eh?

Not really suitable...

You could put a new roof on, but you would need planning permission...which you probably wouldn't get, judging by what is nearby.

Yea what he said, you can drop the ceilings sometimes but doesn't sound viable here either.

Then wait another few minutes and see if it improves.

Trouble is people tend to grow (especially children), so the situation is only gonna get worse by the minute and not better.
