Hi Folks.
My 1st post so I will try and not bog you down with info.
I am embarking on a project to utilise my loft space for storage but plan to do the work so as to use is as a room in the near future.
All my flooring is up to spec but no one seems to be able to give a decent answer on moving the horizontal beams as to give decent headroom.
My loft has a traditional A frame shape and the beams are at 4ft just now. I need to move them up to 6ft 6ins. Should I reinforce the area under the roof where I will have removed these beams from or will they still give support when moved up within the space. I forgot to mention that I have uprights from floor joist to rafter 6ft in from wall plate.
rafters are 5 x 2in, floor joists are 6 x 2in, uprights are 5 x 2in and horizontal beams are 5 x 2.
any answer to any part greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Jimbo
PS. as you can tell Im doing it on the cheap.
