Loft geometry/modification.

Hi Folks.

My 1st post so I will try and not bog you down with info.

I am embarking on a project to utilise my loft space for storage but plan to do the work so as to use is as a room in the near future.
All my flooring is up to spec but no one seems to be able to give a decent answer on moving the horizontal beams as to give decent headroom.
My loft has a traditional A frame shape and the beams are at 4ft just now. I need to move them up to 6ft 6ins. Should I reinforce the area under the roof where I will have removed these beams from or will they still give support when moved up within the space. I forgot to mention that I have uprights from floor joist to rafter 6ft in from wall plate.
rafters are 5 x 2in, floor joists are 6 x 2in, uprights are 5 x 2in and horizontal beams are 5 x 2.
any answer to any part greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Jimbo

PS. as you can tell Im doing it on the cheap.

A structural engineer will be able answer all of your queries but unfortunately you are
doing it on the cheap.

Post some pics and some measurements and we can advise, but as mentioned if you intend to get regs approval you will need an engineer anyway. BC don't tend to take much notice of 'advice taken from some forum'! :D
