I have had to discard most of my loft insyulation due to many previous mice infestations. ie they chewed a lot, used it for nesting etc. My loft space is 6 x5 metres. I have 40mm wide joists with 570mm gaps between. The other trouble i have ius currently I have 70mm deep joists making 200mm coverage quite difficult, especially consideirng I wish to board a fair chunk of it for storage.

Can someone advise my first steps, easiest way to build up the joists, is it worth it? Can I get other stuff that is thinner that will doa better or similar job but involve no raising of the joists.

Also does anyone know what offers re grants there are andhow I would stand.

Many Thanks folks.

I presume either noone can help, noone wants to help or I am asking a question covered a million times in acrhive of this forum

A product called Rockwool is my best suggestion. It comes in in rolls or batts and is normally 45mm wide and 50 of 100mm thick. It is more expensive than the insulation you can buy at your typical DIY store but it does satisfy buildings regs for fire and sound insulation aswell as warmth insulations. Its a regular product at builders merchants and most large DIY stores.

They are grants available depending when the property was built, give your local planning dept a ring for more details. My property was built in 1902 and remembered having a 66% discount off the insulation materials, don't know what years it goes up to though.
