Hi,

I have been thinking of increasing the loft insulation I have. My house was built in 1994 and has about 3-4 inches of itchy stuff at the moment.

I was thinking of boarding out a small portion of it just to store empty cardboard boxes etc, nothing heavy. If I do this and buy a load of the B&Q covered loft insulation will it be okay to just lay the insulation on top of the existing stuff and also on top of the boards I put down?

Is this a big no no to lay insulation on top of boards? Will the efficiency be totally negated etc?

It will just make the job easier as I dont fancy having to increase the joists.

Thanks,

Mike

fine to put more insulation on top of the old and put the boards over the top of the existing boards. Theres no real weight, nice little job for a sunday morning. (then you can spend sunday afternoon getting the insulation and dirt off of you!)

Thanks for that, so its ok to have the following then:

Insulation (new) ++++++++++++[storage space]
Insulation (new) ++++++================ boards (new)
Insulation (old) ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

So some of the new boards will be covered until if/when/ever I need the space for storage of light boxes.

Cheers,

Mike
