Hi All - i'm currently planning a long thin deck attached to the front of the house - 2m x 10m.
I want the deck boards to run perpendicular to the house so, one ledger board and 4 joists at 40mm centres, will run parallel to the house.
The deck will only be a few inchs off the ground so I'm thinking of using 2 x 4 joists.
Once the frame is built, there is rough paving below so I will be able to prop it in multiple places.
Each end of the frame will be 2m lengths of 2 x 4 which if necessary I could double up to make double thickness.
My question is whether to
a) coach bolt two 4.8m joists together (with spare 2 x 4) to create 9.6m long joists
b) or to have a central cross member in the middle of the frame
Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance for any advice
