Need a longer than normal throw sashlock, doesn't necessarily need to be a BS as it's for an outside side gate but needs to be a 2 1/2", the stile won't take a 3"

Does such a lock exist for sensible money?

The longest throw I can think of is 20mm. How much do you need?

How secure?

Why must it be a mortice?

There are some continental double-throw locks

5 or 10mm longer, sorry didn't measure the current one but it's a standard ERA 5 lever BS

How secure?

It's just a side gate, an FLB door, the gate is hung on a post bolted to the house, the other side post is bolted to a featheredge board fence but if you put your weight against the fence you can push it far enough for the latch and deadlock to come out off the striker box

Why must it be a mortice?

Because the existing is and the customer doesn't want a visible repair patch job

There are some continental double-throw locks

Can you link please?

If you were to put a lintel bracing the lock post to the hinge post, I think it would prevent the two flexing apart. It also prevents leaning due to weight.

I haven't got a continental link, I will see if I can find the brand on Brico.

A hook lock, as used on sliding doors, might do. I think there used to be an ingersoll hook lock.

I thought about a adamsrite commercial aluminium door lock and a screw in cylinder or even a euro cylinder but then thought about a gatemate lock which would have been ideal also

I suggested a brace across the top but customer declined outright as they carry tall potted plants through and don't want to or can't do is stoop to low

I'll keep looking

I think they were like this. Not mortice locks

I think double throw locks were used on double doors, but I can't find an example.

Take the existing lock to your local locksmith and they'll fix it.
They can even make keys if you've lost them.

the trouble is you are taking a lock designed to be in a protected or internal situation where 3-5mm is the normal to extreme fluctuation in gap
you now introduce to situation where say 9-14mm can be expected so far outside a normal mortice lock abilities
the best you can do is make the keep on the frame adjustable by perhaps 6mm plastic shims or similar as its the wrong lock for the situation the best you can do is adapt what you have

also a longer throw would require the bolt to start outside the rear off the lock case as the extra 10mm would be behind the key but purely a well-informed guess??
