Hello

I have recently purchased a house with my brother and are well into our first renovation project. The house is semi-detaached and has been rendered in order to match it up with our neighbours.

The house next door was re-rendered and painted approx 4 or 5 years ago in a shade of buttermilk. The company that carried out the work are no longer in existance but they did leave a drum of the paint that was used. We are desperately looking to source some more of it.

All the information I have is that its is in a silver coloured drum (approx 20l) and has only one label: grade 15 - buttermilk When the work was done next door it was applied to the rendering using a spray gun and it is not water based.

I know its a long shot, but I would be very grateful if anyone could shed any light on where this may have been acquired from?!

Thanks in advance.

Would have been better to ask this question in the painting forum.

I thought maybe rendering experts may have more knowledge of the paint needed, but thanks, Ill ask in there.

Fair comment! think the painters would be better qualified to source your particular paint though.

OK thanks, now everyone knows where they are, Could anybody in the painting forum please shed any light on how to obtain this elusive grade 15 buttermilk?

Thanks in advance!

If it's not a water based masonry paint then it's most likely to be pliolite resin. Buttermilk is a popular colour, check to see if there is a B.S. number on the tin, if so take the number to any decent paint shop and they should be able to replicate it to match the colour . It doesn't really matter what brand of pliolite it comes in, they are all pretty good, sandtex 365, dulux, leyland,, all decent stuff.

Thank you for your reply...from doing some research it does appear to be something along those lines.
The problem we have is trying to match the colour exactly to our neighbours house. The tin has literally one label (grade 15 buttermilk) and no other codes or writing. Do you know if the grade 15 is relevent?

Apparently when the house next door was painted (sprayed) an undercoat was applied first, I dont know if this is relevent?

Again, thankyou for your help!

Further to the last, the tin is actually written "textured spray" and has a small number 22833 written on it - it is a 25litre drum... the plot thickens

Grade 15 rings no bells sorry, it's not something I've come across before. As for the number 22833, again I don't know what to make of this, it's not a British Standard (B.S.) number, which are, for example, written as 08 B 15, which is magnolia. I've checked a leyland colour card and it seems buttermilk is no longer available with them. The key here is finding the B.S. number for buttermilk, getting a tin, and seeing if it matches, a bit of trial and error I'm afraid. As regards the undercoat, well pliolite can go straight on most surfaces without any type of undercoat, perhaps they applied a sealer first or stabilising primer.
