I'm ashamed to admit that I have an MDF kitchen, and recently the screws on the hinge of one of the doors have become looser and looser. I've regularly tightened them up but clearly the MDF has been gradually crumbling and just today the hinge has come out entirely. There's no use trying to screw them in again, since the holes have just become too large. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions as to how I could fix this. Should I use filler, or glue, or something else? I know MDF is unreliable but my landlord chose it, not me! And I don't want to ask him to fix it if it turns out to be a simple job I can do myself... Many thanks!

heeelllooo londoner 82 and welcome

are you talking proper kitchen hinges or some other sort!!!!

if its in the end blow out the dust put wood glue in the hole and then screw in the hinge and clamp it

if its on the carcase and backs onto another hinge drill through and use a nut and bolt or a mending plate

Hi Big-All and thanks so much for your quick reply and friendly welcome! I think it's a concealed hinge. It goes straight into the board, and there's not another hinge on the other side of the board, so I'll try your wood glue and clamp suggestion. Once again, many thanks!

PS I don't suppose you could recommend a good wood glue, could you? Thanks ever so much!

If its pulling out of the door you could drill the hole out to 5mm and use these

If its pulling out of the carcase then one of these will do

yep thats the ones i ment jason s/f dont seem to do them any more :D
mind you searching for "mending plates" dosnt help

the mending plates metioned in jasons link are the ones i ment for a more perminant fix

the glue and clamp method will work but may fail over time
its more ment for the 12 or 15mm edge where forcing anything in will just delaminate the mdf

having said that youve nowt to loose just use some pva wood glue and on your travels get a couple of metal brakets suggested by jason ;)
