lost a tooth, worktop hob help

Trying to fit a DIY kitchen, first time.

First let me explain my username- got some lovely, 8-inch long silver metal handles for the cupboard fronts. The first one I tried to screw in with a new electric screwdriver, well, it spun right around like a whiplash and shattered one of my front teeth. Great. 2 hour ago, still hurts like heck.

Okay, here is my (other) problem. I had the kitchen computer-designed up at B&Q, so I thought everything should fit when I unpacked it all. The kitchen worktop is 40mm deep. However, the ceramic hob is around 46mm, deep at the deepest inner measurement. It looks to me like the skeleton base unit underneath the worktop assigned for the hob, is going to need cutting into in addition to the standard worktop recess, as no-way will the hob fit in if it has to sink deeper than the 40mm of the worktop, which a 46mm deep hob will have to surely?

The free space between the 2 wide white wood planks that are on top of all the skeleton base units, is simply not wide enough to allow the hob underside to fit. I can't see any special skeleton base units for sale, so what am I missing?

The hob is a Hotpoint cra641dc

So, if I do that, and cut into the skeleton base units underneath the worktop, I see I will have to remove wood that has underneath it some of the structural metal pins that I put in during base-unit assembly (the ones that tighten up with the 10mm or so wide round screw things with arrows on them).

So this will be okay and is the normal way people fit these things? If I remove structural screws things won't my base units will fall apart ?

either that or take the strap out first and cut it down if your worried,im assuming the cupboard is in between others?.

Make a new cross member or strengthen the existing ones if your worried.

I'm assuming that the base unit underneath where the hob is going will be in between other units either side? If it is, then when you install the kitchen these units will be fixed together. They should provide enough support so the base unit below your hob won't fall apart. It's ok to cut into the wide planks at the top of the unit.
You'll have a similar situation if your fitting an inset sink too.

Think yourself lucky,i lost all my front top teeth and 2 of my bottom teeth several years ago.Throwing scaffold clips up onto paltform(like you do) and one didnt quite make,instead of lettting it hit the deck i decided to catch it.Right in the gob and i aint got round to gettting any false ones yet but hey it was only around 5 years ago .

ah.. been in a similar situation..

I broke 2 of my front teeth with a 2 piece pool cue..
put it in a tube meant for a 1 piece and it got stuck..
lifted the end up and peer'd down the end looking for it when it shook loose and the heavy handle end hit me square inthe mouth with the brass joint part smashing my 2 front teeth off at the bottom..

earlier in my life I also broke one of my baby front teeth when diving into a swimming pool and imbeding the tooth in someones head..

Managed to chip a tooth when core-drilling a wall. Got complacent, corer jammed, SDS swung up sufficiently to smack me firmly in the choppers. As the op knows, there's nothing quite as fun as spitting out a bit of tooth enamel

I can't picture how you could be fixing the handles and mouth be within 8 inches of it? If I was fixing handles my head would be about 20 inches *in front* of the handle not looking down on it

If you are a newbie, before doing any jobs try and think ahead if something went wrong what would happen. Any power tools in unskilled hands can have disasterous results. Don't buy a chainsaw just yet!

you will have more than a broken tooth. OUCH.
