what do the pro's do?

I need to put in a couple of tees for 1x cold water, 1 x hot water and 1 x WM cold feed under the sink.. ( it was all ripped out and piped in straight to get the water back on to bathroom in teh meantime.. )

I've made up the bit to go in and will cut the pipe where I need it to go tomorrow.. ( wall needs boarding first.. pipes off, wall done, pipes back with additions.. )..

the compression joints are as tight as I can get them, but with a fair amount of force I can still turn the fittings.. ( I was trying to get them square to each other.. ) ..

surely that's not right?
I suppose the test will be to see if they leak..

do you pro's put any sort of sealant on them?

Jointing compound on the olive, and a touch on the thread for lubrication.

guess it's another 14 mile round trip to the B+Q then in the morning..
ta..

or would the local plumbcenter be cheaper?
do you need an account to buy there or do they sell to non-trade?

if the fittings can turn, you will have a leak

split the fittings back down, 1 or 2 wraps of ptfe over olive and remake joint

see.. I knew I should have bought some solder ring fittings and a blowtorch kit instead... ( torch, heat mat, small tub of flux and a small roll of solder. )

Just a very light smear of LSX on the inside of the fitting - not splashed all over the olive will work wonders.

Never understood the PTFE argument. Its for threaded joints as is Jointing compund. I do use gastight aswell. The mutz nutz that stuff.

Oh, forgot that.

I aspire to you Kev.

EDIT. Do you think he might have sneaky peep at my post? Oh, and how many times can you be reminded that your 'ignored'?
