Hello
Please try and advise me.
Ive looked through the wiki pages but havnt found the advice/info i want.

Question is, what happens if you get a pull down spray kitchen tap (for example works on minimum 1 bar water pressure) when you have a gravity fed system?
Cold from mains, hot from tank in bedroom. (Also cold water tank in loft)
Is it really not going to work at all?
Im not really needing the hot and cold to mix as i mostly use one or the other but i really want the spray and aerator type taps.
My hot water comes out ok but not as good as the cold. Im used to that though.

I filled a litre jug in 6 seconds with the cold water and it took 12 seconds with hot.

Otherwise im really limited in choice of low pressure taps.

Thanks for any advice, hope ive given you enough info.

It probably won’t work, or will work once maybe. I seem to remember my brother in law having one of those, and he had to change it because it wouldn’t work.

1. Your hot water pressure ( assuming ground, first floor and loft) will be around 0.4 to 0.5 bar.
2. I would not expect a 1.0 bar requirement tap to work well, if at all, at half its design pressure.
3. If you did have them on together, you'd almost certainly get problems with the cold forcing the hot back up the pipes. Can be solved with a non-return valve, but this further reduces the available hot pressure.
4. You can get stand alone pumps, but I've never installed on, and don't know if they are any use.
5. If you do go ahead, get a decent make. The flexible hoses to the spray tend to go very quickly on cheap ones.

As above never be satisfactory
If your really set on it you will have to pump the hot
Single end pump (we use Stuart Turner) use a pump that's as near as possible to mains water pressure so there equal pressure.
If you do go down the spray tap route get a decent named one cheap ones last no time at all.

Thanks for all the info, there are taps that work from 0.5 bar but not many.
Not set on it enough to pay for a pump.
If not Ill stick with the plain old taps and get one of those sprayers you can screw on the end.
Thanks everyone

Mag.
