Hi all,

I have a relatively low-set cold water header tank in a house due to the equally relatively low roof ridge height.

The cold water to all taps is at mains pressure (which isn't fantastic here - maybe 2bar, tops). Downstairs hot water pressure is just about acceptable but upstairs is pants - filling a 250ml glass in about 10 seconds. It's usable but only just.

I already have a shower booster pump for the (downstairs) shower but it is unnecessary and I'd like to replace it with a much less powerful( and thus less wasteful - water and electricity) mains powered pump that will add just 0.5bar or so to the hot water side to get a bit closer to matching the cold water pressure.

So, does such a thing exist and if so, what should I search the interweb for?

Maybe a central heating pump would do?

Any suggestions welcome.

Search for:

Hot Water Booster Pump.

Technically it's incorrect to refer to a 'Central Heating Pump' they are actually 'Circulators' in that they are designed for use within a closed circuit, (what leaves the outlet, goes back to the inlet) so wouldn't be suitable for what you want to do. Neither do they have the necessary control circuit and flow switch to detect a tap is opened and so start & stop the pump as required.
