Lukewarm water in shower - already replaced cartridge

Hello,

I have a Moen Posi-Temp shower valve that was installed 1 year ago. It worked fine until last week.

Now, the water only gets lukewarm. Also, it does not seem to balance pressure: to get hot water, we just have to open another faucet with cold water -- which means that the Posi-Temp does not work.

I tried replacing the cartridge and it didn't change a thing. However, I noticed that the replacement cartridge might have a defect: in order to hear the spool, I have to shake it very hard -- is that supposed to be, or should it move freely?
