Hi all,
Doing some work with a friend to his 1850's property we are refitting a new (downstairs) bathroom, as the walls were in such poor repair we ripped all the old plasterboard off and lurking under the back wall (external) were two 1" steel pipes coming vertically out of the floor and terminating about a foot out of the floor, one was capped and the other open ended.
I decided to be cautious and slightly unscrew the capped pipe, yes you guessed it still connected to the main, I then isolated the water at the boundary stop cock but the damned pipe was still under pressure, I then tried the stop cock to the property next door but no joy, it appears that the pipe is live but with no isolation stop cock!
Any idea's where I go from here? I should point out that I left the pipe with the cap slightly unscrewed for a while (10 mins) to see if it was residual pressure but it didn't seem to make any difference.
The 'bodge it n scarper' in me says I should put new plasterboard up and forget it, but the 'do the job right first time' in me says it needs sorting, and besides the pipes are stopping my back wall from being plumb which is why I ripped the board off in the first place!
Any idea's
