Hi,

Our gas combi boiler engineer came out last week after our boiler started playing up again. He insists that the problem is that the water flowing around the rads is full of sediment and showed me a water sample.

He suggested a magnetic filter be attached to the boiler and that they (homeserve) would not replace the part that is clogged up until something has been done. I told him it was power flushed several years ago which it was. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a magnetic fllter cup cheaply as money is an issue.

Thanks'

You can get them 50 -100 quid but the cost of fitting them is another issue.

Thanks for your replies.

We were led to believe that there is normally attached a cup that unscrews that you can empty at regular intervals. Would that be the same as the one on ebay? Sorry absolutely no knowledge of these devices whatsoever. Ours is a Valiant condenser boiler about 4 years old.

Tell Homeserve, you don't want a contractor and that you want a Vaillant (Group Service) engineer. They will repair it and then tell you that they won't repair it again.

Was it Storm Heating BTW? ;)

What Vaillant is it? What part is blocked?

Yet another advantage of the Spirovent over Magnacleans, etc, etc is that you don't need to dismantle to clean out the debris that it collects.

Just remove a cap at the bottom, and turn a small valve on the side of the Spiroven't's body to discharge the debris into a bucket. This cleans out the filter and magnet. Keep the valve open for only 5 or 10 seconds. This only needs to be done once or twice a year. Then top the boiler's pressure up to 1.5 bar.
